*********NOTE* - Due to changes in terminology, all references to Bills have been changed to Invoices, all references to Billings have been changed to Time Entries, and all references to Costs have been changed to Expenses in the Guide below. At some point, the Video above may also be updated. *************

Introduction

Aren’t you a swell attorney! You’re taking on this Matter out of the kindness of your heart, not planning on making a dime. But even though you won’t be officially Invoicing, you still need to know how much time you put in. You need to know how much money you didn’t make, and you need to make sure that you don't accidentally Bill for work that you already deemed Non-Billable.

Enter the two new Invoicing Types for Matters, Pro-Bono and Non-Billable! Choosing either of these will ensure that, while you can still track Billings, Flat Fees, Expenses and even generate Bills, you can’t post these Bills to Business Central for actual Account processing.

Let’s see how to set this feature!

Setting the Invoicing Type

It doesn’t get any easier than this. You should know how to create a new Matter, but if not, check this Guide for an in-depth look at Matter creation. In the meantime, here’s the short version to see this feature in action. First, choose the Matters Entity on the left side of the screen, and click +New at the top.

Finally, look a little ways down to see the Invoicing Type Dropdown. Click it and see our options here.

That’s really all there is to it. Run your Matter like normal, even generating and sending Invoices to the Client so that they can see how much of a deal that they’re getting, but now you never have to worry about messing up your official books with missing funds. Enjoy!
